De todos los grupos de Kpop con nombres extraños acrónimos, Fin.KL podría ser el más extraño de todos ellos. Fin.KL, o liberticida bien,fue uno de los "originales" grupos de ídolos niña y una definición de la época. Irrumpieron en la escena musical de Corea en 1998 y eran conocidos por sus baladas sentimentales, mientras que la mezcla del pop más tradicional y poco a poco transformándose en un grupo más maduro. Su éxito ayudó a crear el modelo para los grupos de ídolos de hoy y su popularidad no muestra signos de debilitamiento, incluso después de todos estos años.

El comienzo

La leyenda de Fin.KL comenzó cuando Ock JooHyun fue reclutada  famosa después de ganar el primer lugar en un concurso de canto en un popular programa de radio. A continuación, se recomienda amiga  Lee Jin quien llegó a bordo después de audicionar para el papel, mientras que Sung Yuri se convirtió en el tercer miembro del grupo después de que ella llamó la atención de un representante de la compañía de gestión durante un evento escolar. El grupo fue creado para seguir adelante como un equipo de tres miembros, pero miembro de Lee Hyori se añadió en el último minuto después de haber sido descubierto en una cabina  con fotos de su amiga.

Cuando debutó Fin.KL, muchos aficionados Kpop, como un servidor, ya eran fans del grupo principal de otra chica de la época, SES. Después del lanzamiento de "Blue Rain", juré que no iba a cambiar mi lealtad como algunos de mis amigos de mente débil. No era nada en contra de Fin.KL pero de vuelta en el día, por cualquier razón, era casi una regla no escrita de que los fans tuvieron que tomar partido, al igual que las guerras por el territorio de Kies HOT ySechs. Sin embargo, con Fin.K.L 's siguiente sencillo "a mi novio", mi filosofía cambió a "¿por qué elegir un grupo de chicas muy encima de otro? Amar a todos ". Un credo que sigo a este día.

Lograr el éxito

"A mi novio" estaba más en línea con el tipo de música que estaba fuera en el tiempo y los fans parecen estar de acuerdo, por lo que es Fin.K.L's primer éxito # 1. Alegre y lindo, la canción mostraron sus personalidades divertidas y brillantes, mientras que los encantos que impulsa a la cima de las listas. Tal vez lo más importante, los llevó a la corriente principal de la cultura Kpop. El éxito de la canción fue seguida por el tercer single del álbum, "Ruby", que volvieron a su sonido de baladas impulsado porlas voces de Ock Joo Hyun. Al igual que "a mi novio", "Ruby", también se convirtió en un hit # 1para las chicas.

1999 demostró ser el año de definición para el grupo. Fin.KL lanzó su segundo álbum que produjo dos de sus más grandes éxitos."Forever Love" y "Pride" alcanzó el # 1 tanto en el estado y se mantiene el primer lugar por un total combinado de cuatro semanas. Ese año,las damas también se dio a conocer un '2 .5'álbum que incluye la pista "a mi príncipe", otro éxito que agarró los más altos honores.

                                          

Ese año también recibió el reconocimiento del sector por su música, al ganar dos premios"Daesang" de los Premios de la Música de Seúl y los Premios de Música de la SBS. Este fue un gran logro para el grupo que cimentó su estatuscomo una fuerza importante en la música coreana y su lugar en la historia de Kpop.

La transformación de lo simpático a Sexy

Con el lanzamiento de su tercer álbum en 2000,Fin.KL comenzó a verter la imagen linda y me fuipor el camino de ser más sexy y más afilado. Su sencillo "Ahora" fue más una canción de rock de inspiración y alcanzó el puesto # 1 en las listas y permaneció allí durante tres semanas consecutivas. El video musical de "ahora" se convirtió en una explosión popular como los aficionados pudieron ver visualmente la transformación del grupo. Su cambio de apariencia y nuevo vestuario acompañado de sus tonos más maduros ... y así empezó mi enamorada de Lee Hyori. Tengo amigos que al álbum el día de hoy marca Fin.K.L 's tercera yMV de "Ahora", como momentos fundamentales de sus vidas.

Descarga el video y verlo por primera vez fue uno de los mejores momentos de mi carrera universitaria. Fue un momento que cambia la vida ... Dios bendiga a Internet de alta velocidad.

En 2001 las chicas se encendió lanzar un '3 .5'álbum que incluía algunas de las canciones bien conocidas de Corea. Su versión de Eun Hye Yi "Usted no sabe", fue otro éxito con los aficionados y la canción le dio Fin.KL su séptima tabla de Topper.

Nada dura "para siempre"

Fin.K.L álbum 's cuarto no recibió la popularidad o el empujón que sus versiones anteriores había hecho, pero se las arregló para cosechar otra canción # 1 con "Forever", que confirmó además la capacidad de resistencia del grupo.Sin embargo, este iba a ser su última gran éxitoy también su último álbum. En 2005, Fin.KLlanzó un single digital, pero los días de gloria del grupo estaban detrás de ellos y era el momento para ellos para pasar a cosas más grandes y mejores.

     

 

¿Dónde están ahora

Desde su última actuación juntos, cada miembro siguió su camino y ha logrado diferentes niveles de éxito. Sin lugar a dudas, la estrella más grande del grupo era y es Lee Hyori. El ex líderse convirtió en un icono en la industria del entretenimiento coreana, con discos como solista, de restricciones con éxito en programas de variedades, los roles de actuación, y es uno de los más buscados después que suscribimosen Corea. Ella es ahora de imprimación para su regreso con un nuevo programa de variedades y ha hecho suya la causa de los derechos de los animales en Corea.

Ock Joo Hyun se transformó en el año 2004 a través de una dieta exitosa y ahora es una actriz de musical popular. Asimismo, recientemente apareció como concursante en el programa muy popular "Yo soy un cantante ', lo que demuestraque los cantantes ídolos pueden mantenerse al día con los mejores cantantes del mundo Kpop. Sung Yuri entró en el mundo de la interpretación y ha protagonizado una serie de dramas populares. A pesar de que obtuvo algunas reseñas mezcladas en un primer momento, desde entonces ha ganado varios premios y actualmente se encuentra protagonizando una serie de fin de semana. Lee Jin también intentó su mano en la actuación y fue en una serie de comedias de situación y se convirtió en un fijo enlos espectáculos de variedades. Ella reaparecióen 2010 como miembro del popular programa de variedades "Héroes".

Fin.KL sólo se realiza durante cuatro años, sino a muchos aficionados de cierta edad, que tuvo un impacto enorme. Quince premios, ocho hits Número 1, y un sin número de apariciones de televisión y anuncios eran un testimonio de su atractivo universal y duradera popularidad. Su legado perdurable es que diez años más tarde, los aficionados todavía tienen sentimientos profundos de ellos. Gran parte del amor por Fin.KL se basa en la nostalgia, sino la nostalgia sólo está reservada a aquellas cosas que dejaron un vínculo emocional. Además, ¿quién no ama a los "Forever Love" de baile con el pelo Hyori lanzamiento y la promesa meñique? Eso es algo clásico de allí

Way Back Wednesday – Fin.K.L

Of all the oddly acronym-named Kpop groups, Fin.K.L just might be the oddest of them all. Fin.K.L, orFine Killing Liberty, was one of the “original” idol girl groups and a defining one of the era. They burst on the Korean music scene in 1998 and were known for their soulful ballads while mixing in more traditional pop and gradually morphing into a more mature group. Their success helped create the blueprint for today’s idol groups and their popularity show no signs of waning, even after all these years.

The Beginning

The legend of Fin.K.L began when Ock Joo Hyun was famously recruited after winning first place in a singing contest on a popular radio show. She then recommended friend Lee Jin who came on board after auditioning for the part, while Sung Yuri became the third member of the group after she caught the eye of a management company representative during a school event. The group was set to move forward as a three member team, but member Lee Hyori was added at the last minute after being discovered at a photo sticker booth with her friend.

Fin.K.L debuted in the spring of 1998 with their first single “Blue Rain” which was a departure from the cutesy music that the girl groups of the day were pumping out. The soulful ballad about lost love was driven by Ock Joo Hyun’s powerful vocals but, the song wasn’t a huge hit. It did however lay out the formula of how Fin.K.L would operate: Ock Joo Hyun’s voice as the backbone with Lee Hyori’s charisma, Sung Yuri’s cuteness and Lee Jin’s charm lighting the way.

When Fin.K.L debuted, many Kpop fans, like yours truly, were already fans of the other main girl group of the era, SES. Following the release of “Blue Rain”, I swore that I would not switch my allegiance like some of my weak-minded friends. It wasn’t anything against Fin.K.L but back in the day, for whatever reason, it was almost an unwritten rule that fans had to choose sides; like the turf wars of H.O.T andSechs Kies. However with Fin.K.L’s next single “To My Boyfriend“, my philosophy shifted to, “why choose one pretty girl group over another? Love everyone”. A creed that I follow to this day.

Achieving success

“To My Boyfriend” was more in-line with the type of music that was out at the time and the fans seemed to agree, making it Fin.K.L’s first #1 hit. Upbeat and cute, the song showcased their fun personalities and bright charms while propelling them to the top of the charts. Maybe more importantly, it propelled them into the Kpop culture mainstream. The success of the song was followed by the third single from the album, “Ruby”, which went back to their ballad sound driven by the vocals of Ock Joo Hyun. Like “To My Boyfriend”, “Ruby” also went on to become a #1 hit for the girls.

1999 proved to be the defining year for the group. Fin.K.L released their second album which yielded two of their biggest hits. “Forever Love” and “Pride” both reached #1 status and held the top spot for a combined four weeks. That year, the ladies also released a ’2.5′ album which included track “To My Prince”, another hit that grabbed top honors.

That year they also received industry recognition for their music by winning two ‘Daesang‘ awards from the Seoul Music Awards and the SBS Music Awards. This was a huge achievement for the group which cemented their status as a major force in Korean music and their place in Kpop history.

Transformation from Cute to Sexy

With the release of their third album in 2000, Fin.K.L began to shed the cute image and went down the path of being sexier and edgier. Their single “Now” was more of a rock-inspired song and reached #1 on the charts and stayed there for three consecutive weeks. The music video for “Now” became explosively popular as fans were able to visually see the group’s transformation. Their change in appearance and new wardrobe matched their more mature tones… and so started my crush on Lee Hyori. I have friends that to this day mark Fin.K.L’s third album and MV for “Now” as seminal moments in their lives.

Downloading the video and watching it for the first time was one of the highlights of my collegiate career. It was a life changing moment… God bless high-speed internet.

In 2001 the girls went on to release a ’3.5′ album which comprised some of Korea’s well known songs. Their version of Hye Eun Yi’s “You Wouldn’t Know” was another hit with the fans and the song gave Fin.K.L their seventh chart topper.

Nothing lasts “Forever”

Fin.K.L’s fourth album didn’t receive the popularity or the push that their previous releases had, but still managed to garner another #1 song with “Forever” which further confirmed the staying power of the group. However, this was to be their last big hit and also their last full album. In 2005, Fin.K.L released a digital single but the glory days of the group were behind them and it was time for them to move onto bigger and better things.

Where are they Now

Since their last performance together, each member went their separate ways and achieved varying levels of success. Without question, the biggest star of the group was and is Lee Hyori. The former leader went on to become an icon in the Korean entertainment industry with solo albums, successful stints on variety shows, acting roles, and is one of the most sought after endorsers in Korea. She is now priming for a comeback with a new variety show and has taken up the cause of animal rights in Korea.

Ock Joo Hyun transformed herself in 2004 through a successful diet and is now a popular musical actress. She also recently appeared as a contestant on the very popular show ‘I Am a Singer‘, proving that idol singers can keep up with the best singers in the Kpop world. Sung Yuri entered the acting world and has starred in a number of popular dramas. Even though she earned some mixed reviews at first, she has since won multiple awards and is currently starring in a weekend series. Lee Jin also tried her hand at acting and was in a series of sitcoms and became a fixture on variety shows. She resurfaced in 2010 as a member of the popular variety show “Heroes”.

Fin.K.L only performed for four years but to many fans of a certain age, they made an enormous impact. Fifteen awards, Eight #1 hits, and countless TV appearances and commercials were a testament to their universal appeal and enduring popularity. Their enduring legacy is that ten years later, fans still have deep feelings for them. Much of the love for Fin.K.L is based on nostalgia but nostalgia is only reserved for those things that left an emotional attachment. Plus, who doesn’t love the “Forever Love” dance with the Hyori hair toss and the pinky promise? That’s classic stuff right there.
